User guide
New to PrinceShade? This covers everything — from turning the shade on to per-display control, focus exclusions, scheduling, and global shortcuts.
- Turn the shade on
- Click the PrinceShade icon in the menu bar, then click the large circle. Your screen dims. Click it again to turn the shade off.
- Set the level
- Drag Brightness to go lighter or darker — well past the system minimum — and Warmth to shift the screen toward amber. Each slider has a reset button, and you can step either one from the keyboard (see below).
- Control each display
- Click “Per-Display” to give every connected monitor its own brightness and warmth — including external monitors that have no brightness slider of their own.
- Keep one window bright
- Turn on “Undim focused window” to keep the window you’re working in clear while everything else stays shaded.
- Pause for color-critical apps
- In Settings → Focus, switch on “Disable when focused” and add your photo or video editors. PrinceShade steps aside while one of them is in front, then returns when you switch away.
- Schedule it
- In Settings → Schedule, set auto-on and auto-off times and choose the weekdays they run.
- Use the keyboard
- In Settings → Shortcuts, assign global hotkeys to toggle the shade and nudge brightness or warmth up or down — they work from any app.
- Settings & quit
- In the popover, the gear (bottom-left) opens Settings and the power button (bottom-right) quits PrinceShade.
